From the beginning of his WWE career, ‘Taker established his distinctive aura being the company’s strong backbone who could hauntingly intimidate anyone who stands in his way. He is a remnant of the old glory days of WWE, where legends like Randy Savage, Bret Hart, and Hulk Hogan ruled the ring. What made him stand out was his rare athletic abilities with the sterling agility for a billed 6ft 10 inch physique.

However, the most remarkable trait of ‘The Phenom’ was that he could manifest an eternal in-ring persona, which could be facilitated in almost every era of WWE. That is why ‘The Deadman’ persona is widely considered as the best and darkest character WWE has ever created. Further, The Undertaker adapted many add-on gimmicks but never changed his base persona.

In the last years before his retirement, he made peace with the ring by finally surrendering to the flow of a new generation.

The Distance Between The Undertaker and Mark Calaway

After his retirement match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36, Mark Calaway took away the iconic ensemble of ‘The Deadman’. Ever since, he has been cherishing his retirement life, focusing on a life that allows him to freely explore his candor as a normal human being.

I’m a lot lighter. I’m not nearly as dark as what you see on TV. There was a long period of time where it was hard for me to shut Undertaker off. I lived that character and that sometimes boiled over into my personal life,” The Undertaker reflected in an interview with WWE ON FOX.

In an interview with comedian Kevin Hart, Calaway said, “Just learning how to be [a] dad. How to be a better human being. Those are the things that are more important to me than anything.”

Further, the soon-to-be WWE Hall of Famer has also been opening about his epic career moments on various platforms and the world is loving this unseen side of Taker. Nevertheless, he indeed ‘undertook’ the profession that nourished his career and the industry for a glorious epoch.
