Vince McMahon is infamous for a lot of things. However, not many WWE fans would know that the former CEO of the promotion once asked a talent to ‘laugh’ for him. The sole reason behind this was that McMahon wanted to test out Riddick Moss’ capabilities because he had a specific gimmick in store for him. Fortunately for the wrestler, McMahon found him the perfect fit.

While talking about his experience of laughing for his boss back in 2021, Moss also revealed how Madcap Moss was the perfect character for him. The gimmick resonated with the wrestler’s real-life personality. So, it was a lucky opportunity for him.

Even though Riddick was already in the promotion, he was out of action due to an injury that he received during one of his matches. So, before he could return to the ring again, WWE wanted to make sure everything about him was worth selling to the audience. This forced McMahon to come up with the idea of Madcap Moss. Since the gimmick was about to have a non-serious personality, he asked Riddick to laugh for him.

During an appearance on NotSam Wrestling, he said, “There is a very similar characteristic between myself and the Madcap [Moss] character which is I love to just have a good time and laugh and not take anything too seriously.” Even though he considers himself lucky that he got the opportunity to play the gimmick as it suits him well, he remembered the time McMahon auditioned him for the same.

I did have to show, demonstrate to Vince [McMahon] that I could laugh. So he explained the character, explained what he was looking for out of the character, and then said, ‘Okay, laugh.’ ‘Excuse me?’ He said, ‘Laugh.’ ‘Haha, haha, haha! Haha!’ ‘Alright, that works. We can work with that’,” added the 33-year-old.

Since Moss had landed that gimmick after a small audition, where is Madcap Moss now? Despite the extra work that he endured to prove himself worthy of the character, Moss had to abandon his ‘Madcap’ gimmick this year.

Moss carried the character for more than a year right before WWE changed him back to his previous ring name. This change happened when the promotion was drafting a new active roster this year at the end of April.

Moss saw a move over to RAW along with the return of his old gimmick. As he claims to not take anything seriously, it could be possible that he is not too troubled by this decision.
