“No Need to Put Women in the Front”: Ronda Rousey Shared Her Honest Stance on Women’s Representation in Sports

There is a reason Ronda Rousey is called the Baddest Bi*** on the Planet, and it’s not only about strength. Apart from boasting about her wins, Rousey has often used her platform to voice her opinion when needed. Ever since opening the door for women in the UFC, Rousey continues to speak about the representation of the same.

Speaking in a recent interview, Rousey highlighted the boost UFC has provided to women’s sports and against the W’s in other sports. She also talked about the pay gap between male and female fighters.

Ronda Rousey comments on the UFC’s pro-female practices

When asked why she thinks the UFC is crossing boundaries in terms of equality, Ronda Rousey said, “For the first time ever, there is no distinction between men or women in a sport. There’s WNBA, women’s tennis, there’s all these W’s everywhere. Just a few months ago, women were introduced into the Octagon for the first time. Just as Bantamweights. There’s no need to put women in the front. They don’t say men’s bantamweight division, why do they have to say women’s? It’s the first sport in the world to eradicate separation.

When the interviewer pointed out the pay gap according to gender, Rousey said, “I don’t like to talk about exactly how much money I make but I’m extremely comfortable and happy. If I got to a point where I had almost 50 fights I would probably making the same amount of money that Floyd does. But at this point, I have 11, so I can’t expect it to be exactly the same yet.”

As we know, Rousey is no longer with the UFC but has signed with the sports entertainment giant, WWE. While inter-gender wrestling is not a thing that WWE follows, it is a great ocean of different matchups. On the indie side of wrestling, women win a lot of men’s titles regularly, even the world championships.
