Brock Lesnar is a ‘Breathing Tank’ that achieved success in every sport he competed in. No matter how difficult the sport is, Lesnar dominated it with his unwavering will. Notably, after making a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling, he joined the UFC where he blended parts of pro wrestling. Which caused Joe Silva, a former matchmaker, to get angry about one such incident at one point.

On the Punchin’ podcast, the founder of American Top Team, Dan Lambert, describes how Silva wasn’t at all pleased with Lesnar’s delivery of a promo at UFC.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term ‘promo,’ it refers to dialogue or monologue intended to develop a storyline. Pro wrestling frequently uses it to enhance the plot as well. Lambert stated, “It was like the first epic promo in the UFC. And just to put this in context back then the UFC was trying to become mainstream. They wanted to be looked at as a major sport and they were not yet at this time.”

It did impress Lambart as he could see how much money it could generate, and he advised Silva to take advantage of opportunities like that. Silva, on the other hand, was unhappy and has opposing ideas.

He said, “I saw him [Joe Silva] watching the Brock promo and it almost felt like there was steam coming out of his ears. He wasn’t happy you know I don’t think anybody at the UFC was happy with the Promo that time.”

Dan Lambert claims that as more people became aware of its authenticity, the UFC eventually felt secure in its status as a legitimate sport. Additionally, similar to professional wrestling, UFC started creating personas after that via promos.

He illustrates it with the example of Conor McGregor, saying that if he had simply stuck to fighting, he would have been a great fighter, but when he brought his personality to sports, he became the greatest athlete in the annals of the game. Indeed, character contributes positively to athletes and helps them connect with fans, making sports engaging for spectators.
