The Beast won the Undisputed Championship at SummerSlam 2002 against The Rock less than two months after turning 25 and became the youngest WWE Champion ever. It’s interesting, he reasoned, that Mr. McMahon asked him for a big favor, and he gave it to him in exchange.
What favor did Vince McMahon request of Brock Lesnar?
After defeating the Hardys in 2002, according to Brock Lesnar‘s autobiography, Death Clutch, his career was poised to soar. Meanwhile, WWE set a bout between him and Stone Cold Steve Austin. At the time, he was an A-list wrestler, and fans adored him for his raunchy and raw character.

According to Lesnar, he was scheduled to face The Texas Rattlesnake in Atlanta and defeat Austin that evening. However, just as it was going to happen, Austin left the show. Mr. McMahon had to quickly build up something as a result, and Ric Flair’s match against him is what he came out to do.

In his autobiography, he stated, “Vince himself was going to wrestle Ric Flair that night, in Atlanta—a battle between two fifty-something guys—with the storyline. Being a winner-take-all bet for Vince’s storyline, 50 percent of WWE ownership against Flair’s story-line 50 percent.”
“But just when it looked to the crowd like Flair was going to beat Vince. I’d come down, jump into the ring, and cost Flair the match. Vince would then owe a huge favor to the Next Big Thing.”

In addition, he said that in keeping with their makeshift script, Paul Heyman would deliver a pronouncement in Lesnar’s favor on live television and declare that if he triumphed at King of the Ring 2002, he would receive a championship shot at SummerSlam. Ultimately, in return for his favor, Lesnar rose to prominence as the WWE’s youngest heavyweight champion.
