Vince McMahon is a billionaire, and that didn’t happen by accident. His company, WWE, has a stranglehold on an entire industry. So much so that professional wrestling is now synonymous with the WWE. Even though there are other wrestling promotions that compete with WWE, there is no promotion at par with it yet. The promotion’s global status is thanks to the genius of its Chairman, Vince McMahon.
WWE’s dominance is a result of an excellent strategy that was devised back in the 1980s. The reason WWE went to the top and stayed there is that it did something completely different from all its competitors. It seems like McMahon had a brilliant plan that worked splendidly. It changed the industry forever, and former WWE Manager and professional wrestler Dutch Mantell recently revealed how WWE took control.

People remember Mantell as the manager of Jack Swagger back when he was in WWE. He and Swagger encouraged people to chant “We the people”. Dutch is also a veteran pro-wrestler and was around when Vince McMahon changed the game. In an interview with Wrestling Shoot Interviews, he revealed Vince’s strategy that helped him take over the wrestling industry.
He revealed that there were certain hot spots for wrestling back in the 1980s, like Memphis, Atlanta, and New Orleans. Networks at these places would offer wrestling companies a share in advertisement revenue to put on their show for the networks. However, Vince McMahon thought differently. His company ended up buying different hour slots from a network and started generating their own advertisement revenue, and they did this countrywide.
“They did that all across the country, they did it in New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami, New York, and Chicago. When they just inundated the country with WWF product; that’s how they got a foothold in the country,” he said.
