In WWE, losing clean can be a momentum stopper. Normally, this booking is used to ensure the babyface has a momentous victory over an existing heel. It is rarely seen done to a returning star to the WWE. However, fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, were surprised to see it happen to Kairi Sane.

Sane returned to the WWE at Crown Jewel and joined forces with Damage CTRL.

At Crown Jewel 2023, no one was expecting Kairi Sane to return. During Iyo Sky’s title defense match, she returned to help her friend. Since then, she has not had a solo match. Her most recent match was with her squad Damage CTRL at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, which they ended up losing.

This episode of SmackDown saw Sane take on Bianca Belair in a singles match. Despite Bayley aiding her teammate, Belair was the one to pick up the win. Sane lost clean on her first singles match since her return. While this makes sense, as she is the heel, this could potentially stop whatever momentum she was building as a credible threat.

The match took place after Belair challenged the entire Damage CTRL team to get her chance at Iy Sky’s title. This was Sane’s first singles match in the WWE since her return.

Bayley, who came out to the ring, was specifically told not to do so, as this could end up costing Sane the match. There has been tension between the group and Bayley ever since Sane returned to the WWE. Could this be the start of Damage CTRL breaking and Bayley turning babyface?

The tension between members of Damage CTRL

There has been tension brewing within the members of Damage CTRL and it mostly stems from Bayley. Despite being the MVP at the WarGames match, where she saved her team members from near falls, there have been issues. The rest of the team treats Bayley as a liability.

This resulted in four of the members leaving Bayley behind during the opening segment on SmackDown. Could it result in the team finally breaking up?

One take at a time

My passion for professional wrestling began when I saw Kane ripping the Hell in a Cell door off in the iconic 1997 match. I used to enjoy watching WWE re-runs at 5 in the evening when I got home from school. It was sort of a ritual for me.
