In an interview last month, while promoting his movie Black Adam, a reporter from the UK asked DJ about the chances of the US Men’s Soccer National Team (USMNT) at the FIFA World Cup. The Rock sounded confident and even got passionate while talking about his country’s fortunes at the mega-event.

Dwayne Johnson shared his hopes for the USMNT at the FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup fever is starting to grip soccer fans all over the world. The tournament will feature 32 countries as they fight out for the ultimate prize in the sport. At this year’s edition held in the middle eastern nation Qatar, the USMNT will hope for a showing to make their fans proud. The US side has been drawn in the same group as Iran, Wales, and one of the biggest soccer nations, England.

Last month Dwayne Johnson did an interview with UK-based ‘talkSPORT’ to promote his movie Black Adam. During the interview, the host brought up the FIFA World Cup and asked The Great One about his country’s chances at the event.

The host said that if The Rock was feeling confident to which he replied in the affirmative. He then went on to ask the Hollywood star, “Are you confident about qualifying? Maybe not beating England, but getting out of the group. You take that. Take second place right now surely.”

“We go first you go second everyone’s happy? This triggered The Rock’s patriotism, who refused to accept the second spot for his nation. He hit back, “F**k all that. What do you mean, second place? I don’t want that.. I don’t want number two.

The host further asked The Rock if he wanted number one. The Brahma Bull replied, “A kid can dream.” Though he may not be an adherent soccer fan and know a great deal about the sport, but his love for his nation is undoubted.

Indeed, perhaps The Rock’s hopes of USMNT finishing ahead of England in the group stages may not be that misplaced. England have a rich history in soccer having won the World Cup in 1966, but the USMNT is unbeaten against their rivals from across the pond. They first met in 1950 when the USA recorded a historic 1-0 win over England. Then in 2010, the US side held a star-studded English soccer team to a 1-1 draw in South Africa.

The two teams will face each other on 25th November at this edition of the World Cup and the USMNT will hope to keep their unbeaten record intact.
