Delivering the next generation of gaming experience is the coveted promise; both Microsoft and Sony are aiming with Xbox Series X and PS5. These companies are trying their best to deliver a console that would encompass all the cutting-edge technological superiority. With all this at stake, it was expected that these two heavyweights wouldn’t hold back with their reveals.
The marketing policy adopted by both these companies seems to have a quick-fire response for the other. One thing we do have to remember is the price. Both Xbox Series X and PS5 will be expensive. However, they will need to time their advertising right to get an early bird.
We already know that on July 23rd, Xbox Series X will have one of those reveal events. Journalist Tom Phillips expressed his views on this as he took to Twitter. He listed the dates of the following events by Microsoft as well as Sony.

Xbox event to be followed up shortly by PS5
Looking at the next couple months, July/August is currently a tasty Microsoft/Sony announcement sandwich
23rd July – Xbox first-party games (Halo, other returning IP)
August – PlayStation State of Play
Later in August – Xbox for Lockhart reveal(ingredients subject to change)

Tom says, “Neither wants to be the first to say next-gen is going to be expensive. Neither wants to be second to launch. Be interesting to see who blinks first on price/release date!” It is absolutely spot on, neither company is ready to incur any sort of loss or be the second.

From a perspective where we judge based on quality, both Xbox Series X and PS5 can stand tall against each other. They are exceptionally designed with the latest features and are going to feature the top games. Thus, the marketing plan becomes a game of patience and price. There is also a possibility that their price will see a gradual hike.

Lockhart is a variant of the next-gen console (Series X) with the same CPU and SSD but with a less powerful graphics processor. Project Lockhart might be revealed during the July 23rd event for all we can guess. However, this one being entirely separate from Series X gives it a better chance. We know that Xbox Series X and PS5 will be highly demanded, and at the same time, people might go for an option like Lockhart.
This is where Tom mentions that, “But Microsoft really has to talk price in August to sell huge cost advantage of Series S – like “hey, here’s a non-4K next-gen box for half the price of PS5″But Microsoft really has to talk price in August to sell huge cost advantage of Series S – like “hey, here’s a non-4K next-gen box for half the price of PS5.” We will have an official event for Lockhart in August, and that might be the decider for this game between the two companies.
