A large source of income for upcoming YouTube and Twitch streamers are donations from fans. However, after their rise to fame, they get various partnerships deals and promotion deals, following which, donations from viewers become a tertiary source of income. It’s more or less a way for fans to show their affection after that. Streamers like Disguised Toast and Pokimane have realized this over time.

Both these streamers are of the opinion that fans should instead invest this money into something useful. Donations worth five bucks are equally efficient in catching their attention, just as those over $100. Therefore, while many streamers put a minimum donation cap, Pokimane has become one of the first streamers to put a maximum cap on donations in her streams.
Working with Streamlabs, She has now put a $5 cap on donations from fans.

Thank you for supporting me to the point where I consider anything more than that unnecessary. To anyone that was more generous- please support growing channels, charities, and treat yourselves.❤️😊 pic.twitter.com/QhrusbDFxD

xQc approves the move by Pokimane but is afraid of the consequences
A move like this was bound to get reactions from other streamers. Probably the most accurate yet controversial opinion comes from xQc. In a recent stream, xQc talked about how Poki’s move is going to start a ripple effect in the community. He also implied that this is not the first time fans have dealt with a situation in such a manner.

“Every time one creator does something good, for some reason.. Everybody, instead of saying “oh that’s good” they say “holy shit all the other ones not doing it, they’re bad” – and that’s a really odd way of thinking.”
The Twitch streamer makes an excellent point about how the community is going to react to Poki’s move. He believes that rather than celebrating Pokimane the community will target other streamers for not following in her footsteps.

And while some streamers wouldn’t hurt financially, even if they do follow suit, it is imperative to remember that the donations are absolutely necessary for a lot of streamers who, unlike Poki, don’t have other streams of income.

Therefore, xQc fears that other streamers will have to face flak from the fans who don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to get noticed. While this isn’t really the case, it’s going to be the popular narrative after Poki’s move.
