Leon Edwards lets out some shocking news soon after the welterweight title clash was announced.

Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White announced an array of events that will go down on is now confirmed Fight Island. He made an official announcement confirming the location and various other details concerning the island.

White even went on to announce 3 major fights that will take place at the inaugural event on the island. Out of those 3 title clashes, one will be for the welterweight title. This match will take place on the fight island on July 11th and will have Kamaru Usman take on Gilbert Burns.

However, this matchup was supposedly on the UFC’s first choice. They first went and asked Leon Edwards to start in this title clash. Having to, unfortunately, turn this opportunity down, they then went ahead with Burns as Edward’s alternative.

In a Tweet, Leon Edwards made this news public. Though he didn’t dive deep into the reasons why he was forced to turn this fight down, he expressed he would come back for the title sooner or later.

Leon Edwards Tweeted, “For those asking, yes I got offered the shot before Gilbert. We couldn’t make it work this time. 2020 has been tough for me on this side of the world, as it has been for (a lot) of people, but (expletive) it, you can’t stop what is inevitable.”
