Adesanya fights in the middleweight division and is currently the reigning champion in the UFC. Mousasi, the former champ of the division, about how a fight with the the former would play out.

Gegard Mousasi said, “It would be a good fight for me. You have to be patient and not brawl with him. Because then he counters–and I’m good at the distance. That would be a great fight because I sparred with some guys he fought at Glory and I did very well against them. So I can measure with that. …But it’s a hypothetical, so it’s not going to happen.”

Gegard Mousasi can’t fight Israel Adesanya. Why?

Despite Mousasi having a game plan ready for when he’s locked in a cage with Adesanya, he says it is only a hypothetical scenario. Gegard recently signed a new deal with the Bellator promoters. Even if both the fighters want to, the changes are nowhere in question.

Gegard, in relation to his new deal, said, “I talked to [Bellator president] Scott [Coker], and in [less than an hour] we had a deal, I think. So, I’m happy, I’m very happy. … I’ve been treated very well. I feel like the payment is good. The relationship that I have with Scott, the Bellator staff, it feels like you’re part of a team, you know? It’s more connected, let’s say.”

Mousasi is happy and content with where he stands right now regarding his career. He is backed and surrounded by a great team. Bellator holds great prospects for Mousasi’s future. He holds a record of 46-7-2, with his last win coming off a decision over Lyoto Machida.

Though Israel Adesanya vs Gegard Mousasi is only a fantasy, it’s one the fans would love to see. How it would play out is still up for discussion.
