The coronavirus carries on unflinchingly, as countries and industries across the globe struggle to cope with this sudden and drastic change. In fact, according to UFC President Dana White, even the most mammoth companies that seemed untouchable prior to the pandemic, now face unfathomable losses.
Dana White cited the example of Disney in a recent interview with Bret Okamoto from ESPN. Of course, it is very obvious that just like other entertainment firms, Disney, too, is facing its fair share of drawbacks. He said,

“When you have a company like Disney, right? You know how hard it is to mess up Disney? Right now, Disney is looking at no people at their theme parks. No movies being released. And no sports on ESPN. This thing is gonna affect a lot of businesses that three months ago, you thought, were impossible to hurt.”

“A lot of people are gonna go out of business. Some sports. This is gonna affect major sports. You know, teams, leagues. It’s gonna be interesting to see how this plays out over the next several years. But I’m an aggressive type of person. I think now is the time to be smart, or be very aggressive. We gotta get people back to work. We gotta get sports back on TV. You gotta get movies coming out again. All these things have to happen.”

He delved into an argument that he had with a journalist. The journalist told him argued that the gate only accounted for 10-15% of NFL’s revenue. Dana replied that even though it was only 10-15% for NFL as a whole, it is the local teams that depend largely on the gate.
Thus, the pandemic might just cause many sports to rule out a comeback, given the dire circumstances. After all, no one could have predicted a situation as unimaginable as this. All one can do is prepare and probably strive to make things work as much as one can. And this is exactly what White is doing. He said,

“The world is gonna change in the next 7-8 months. Since the day this started, you know, I started planning on what’s next and what we’re gonna do. But that’s just me.”
Surely, White promised ever since the pandemic began that he won’t let operations freeze at the UFC. And from what we have seen till now, he has managed to live up to his promise.
