LOS ANGELES, CA – JUNE 30: Kaavia Wade wants no part of a half time interview with her dad Dwayne Wade during a Sparks WNBA game on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 in Los Angeles, CA.
What a difference a few months can make! Dwyane Wade was on the verge of a mental breakdown before, and spoke out about suffering from ‘mental fog’ as he gets closer to 50. Today he’s excited and proud. The cause? His daughter Kaavia. She’s growing up; this Flash doesn’t have the Speed Force to turn back time, and he’s making the best out of it. Kaavia James Union Wade, who’s three months shy of her seventh birthday, is heading to the big kid playground.
So, her parents are documenting this big milestone with the whole fam. After her graduation from kindergarten this summer, Kaavia is now a first-grader, and her parents were soaking it all in.
Gabrielle Union shared the carousel of pictures captured on this milestone moment on Instagram with a very emotional statement, “proof that time doesn’t walk — it sprints 🥹 #firstgrade.”

Time indeed flew and the now six-year-old Kaavia is holding that chalkboard that marks the start of her new student life, quite literally. According to the post, she starts school at 6 and three quarters, with her favorite color ‘light blue,’ her favorite food ‘Nutella wrap,’ and dreams of becoming a dance teacher. (She’s already Gab’s very strict dance instructor.)

Wade and Union were the excited parents who couldn’t stop taking pictures of Kaav in their driveway. And it wasn’t just her parents. Kaavia’s aunts (Union’s sisters), Tracy Union and Andrell McCants were also present. Kaavia was also all smiles at her new big girl desk and hand in hand with her friend in school. While mom, Gab was pretty prominent in the photo spree, dad was a little lowkey for understandable reasons.

Dwyane Wade’s girls are growing up
It’s been an eventful summer for the Wade-Union household. Dwyane Wade’s eldest daughter, Zaya turned 18, graduated high school with honors, and is heading to college (possibly across the country in Washington). That was emotional enough. Now his littlest girl is growing up too.
Shortly before Zaya’s big day, Kaavia graduated from kindergarten. Like any dad, the Heat legend was understandably an emotional wreck. Kaavia rocked a blue graduation gown in pictures in June with D-Wade cheering, “GO KAAV GRADUATE.”

Union revealed that Zaya hung out with her little sister at lunchtime in school and Zaya sort of coached her in basketball. Now Zaya’s off to college and Kaavia will be all by herself in school. But this is the day Zaya prepared her little sister for. Daddy Wade will just have to adapt.
