After Idris Elba Diagnosed with Covid-19, Fans Fear Worst for Lewis Hamilton

The Coronavirus pandemic is sparing no one. The latest celebrity to test positive for Covid-19 is Idris Elba. Netizens, however, were quick to notice that Elba had been near reigning 6 time World champion Lewis Hamilton.

What was the event?
The WE Day UK 2020 was held at the SEE Arena in Wembley. The charity event saw Idris Elba joined by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and others. The F1 world champion was photographed standing next to the ‘Luther’ star and Sophie Trudeau, wife of Canadian PM Justin Trudeau (extreme left).
Trudeau tested positive for the virus a few days ago. Now after news emerged that Elba too has been struck by the Covid-19, there exist fears that Hamilton may have contracted the dreaded virus.
It has been 13 days since the event in London. There have been no confirmed reports of Lewis Hamilton or any other driver testing positive for the Covid-19.
Hamilton seems to have escaped unscathed. Fans could heave a sigh of relief. However, with the present scenario, they will be on tenterhooks until and unless Hamilton gets tested and the results come out negative.

Formula 1 stands canceled
The Formula 1 season opener was canceled at the 11th hour after the McLaren pulled out of the race. Subsequent races in Bahrain and Vietnam were also called off.
The races in Spain, Netherlands and Monaco are still on. But an announcement by the Monaco government means that the street race is all set to be canceled.

Initially, teams were not on the same page regarding the race. The internet too had mixed reactions regarding the Australian Grand Prix being the only sporting event in the world to go ahead as per schedule.
While the decision may disappoint petrolheads and starve them of wheel-to-wheel action, the safety of the racers, teams, fans, and staff is paramount. With factory production having stopped and racers on an impromptu extended break, the earliest we can expect to see any racing action is in June. But even that is subject to the scenario at the time.
