“It Can Happen to E.J. and Andre”: Lakers Legend Magic Johnson Reveals He’s Warned His Sons of Racism

Los Angeles Lakers legend and Hall of Famer Magic Johnson said he had a talk with his children about the life of a black man in America.
Johnson is among the popular figures in his country. His accolades in basketball have earned him a lot of fame. He was one of the stars of a Lakers team that was one of the most dominant forces in the 1980s. A five-time NBA Champion and a three-time league MVP, his career came to an abrupt end when he announced he was contracted with HIV.
In spite of being one of the most popular names in America, he still felt the need to warn his sons about being a black person in the country. He felt if it happened to George Floyd, it could happen to anybody.

“I had that conversation because it’s important that I have that conversation with both E.J. and Andre,” Johnson said on CNN. “Let’s look at George Floyd. He did everything he was supposed to do. And this police officer put all his body weight, all his body weight on his neck, right, for eight minutes. So if that can happen to George Floyd, it can happen to E.J. and Andre and more black men.”
Johnson admitted that this is not the only such incident in America and many don’t come up in public. He said people are fed up and started fighting it.
“There’s been a lot of George Floyd’s in our community that hasn’t been reported or seen, and people who live in black America know that,” he said. “The only reason now that we’re acting like this is because we’re fed up. We’re tired of it. We can’t take it anymore.”
