The very first tennis tournament to be rescheduled this year, French Open 2020 has once again changed its dates amid the coronavirus pandemic. The clay-court major was supposed to start on September 20, 2020. But now the main draw events have been postponed by a week. The event will start on September 27 and conclude on October 11.
Earlier in the month of March, Roland Garros took a unilateral decision regarding the postponement of their tournament. They did not consult ATP/WTA or other Grand Slams before announcing the changes in their plan.
But now, according to Le Parisien journal, they revised the planning after receiving requests from ATP and WTA. The tennis bodies are presently involved in the rescheduling of other tournaments on the tour.

Currently, the US Open 2020 in New York is scheduled to take place from August 31 and September 13. Two weeks after the conclusion of the US major, the tennis professionals will have to make a quick transition from hard surface to the crushed bricks of Paris.
Will the French Open 2020 happen?
However, former World Number one Andy Murray is skeptical about the French Open getting underway this year. If it does, the Briton would definitely step on the Parisian terre-battue. But for the moment, with the world being in the state of topsy-turvy, he is not certain about the resumption of tennis in 2020.

“I would definitely play on the clay if it goes ahead. I’m a bit skeptical whether it will,” former French Open finalist Murray told CNN. “I would imagine tennis would be one of the last sports to get back to normality. Because you’ve obviously got players and coaches and teams coming from all over the world into one area.”
