Serena Williams’ Ex-coach Patrick Mouratoglou Snubs Roger Federer to Pick His Rival in an Important Skill

Former American tennis star Serena Williams had a fantastic run with her former coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The Frenchman is among the top tennis coaches in the world. Mouratoglou often gives his opinions on matters related to tennis and makes questionable calls. It happened again when he preferred Stan Wawrinka over Roger Federer for a particular skill. Here’s what happened.

Does Stan Wawrinka have a better one-handed backhand than Roger Federer?

The Frenchman was interacting with fans on his Instagram Story. While having a question-answer session, a fan asked him about the beat one-handed backhand. As we all know, almost everyone will agree it has to be Roger Federer. However, Mouratoglou has a different name. “I have to name Stan Wawrinka. He didn’t play that much and that well last year. Because he came back from an injury. But definitely the best one-handed backhand on the tour.”

Wawrinka once had the potential to be the next big thing. However, frequent injuries ruined his momentum. Wawrinka last appeared in the Australian Open. He went down fighting in a five-set match in the first round. The Swiss tennis star is suffering from a form slump and suffered a first-round exit earlier at the US Open as well.

Mouratoglou lauded Federer after his retirement

Although Mouratoglou believes Wawrinka has a better one-handed backhand than Federer, the Frenchman is in complete awe of the Swiss maestro. When Federer hung his racket, Mouratoglou was full of praise for the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

Recalling a few of the greatest matches Federer played in his career, the Frenchman hailed him as the superhero and perfect ambassador for tennis. Further, the Frenchman recalled two of the greatest matches Federer played at Wimbledon against Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Although Federer ended up on the losing side of these matches, the grit he displayed was phenomenal.
