After the French open 2020, Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner faced each other once again this afternoon at the Bett1Hulks Championship. Zverev went into the match a little rattled recalling their previous incident in which he was handed a four-set defeat. However, he was not ready to bow down without a fight. Zverev avenged his Roland Garros defeat by winning the match 7-6, 6-3.

The first set belonged to Alexander Zverev

Jannik served the first service of the game to commence the match. Both the players held on to their initial services to draw the scores at 1-1. While the Italian was successful in repeating the feat, Zverev failed. Sinner broke Zverev’s service to go 3-1 up before holding to his own and taking 4-1 lead in the first set.

Sinner lead the first set comfortably and the pressure was upon Zverev to make a comeback. The German was two games away from losing the set and time was slipping away from him. He broke Sinner’s service twice and successfully defended his service to claim four consecutive games. The German had been trailing the set all these while. However, some lethal services intermingled with sniper-like returns saw him gain an advantage in the set for the first time in the match.

The tables had turned completely and Zverev pulled back a phenomenal display of tennis. The talented youngster was letting his racquet do the job for him as he served to take the first set. It was a do-or-die situation for Jannik as he needed to break Zverev’s service to stick to the first set.

The first set changed direction within a jiffy. It had started off with favoring Sinner and changed its course to favor Zverev. While Zverev served to take the set, Sinner drew a service break once again to equalize the set 5-5.

The drama was far from over. Both the players succeeded in breaking their opponent’s service for the next two games. Zverev lost the advantage of taking the set as Sinner came from behind to skittle his defense.

The scores equalized at 6-6 ran into the tiebreaker. Even though Sinner tried to hold on to the momentum, Zverev’s precise returns saw the German claim important points and walk away with the set.

The second set too went in favor of the German

Alexander Zverev continued his domination in the second set. The German took the first game to his name with his service before breaking SInner’s service to gain a 2-0 lead. The lead was extended in a jiffy as Zverev stuck to his natural game to go 3-0 up in no time.

The rapid movement of Zverev followed by his intent to avenge his Roland Garros defeat was making it difficult for Sinner to make a comeback in the match. He was already three games down and Zverev was miles ahead of him.

The Italian saved the blushes as he extracted a game with his service. Although he looked to get a grip on the set, Zverev comfortably held his service to maintain the lead.

Sinner having won a game was showing real intent back into the game. Playing long rallies and cross-court tennis, the Italian was hoping for Zverev to slip off and commit an error. He succeeded in claiming his second game of the set after a handful of deuces which Zverev failed to capitalize upon.

What followed was probably the most intense match of the entire match. Zverev was leading the set 4-2. Sinner was slowly getting into the rhythm and was looking for an opportunity to strike. Zverev served to soar closer to victory and Sinner looked to break his service.

Both the players were adamant about claiming the game. The seventh game went on for a spin as both the players failed to capitalize on a handful of advantages. Ultimately Zverev got the better of his opponent as he took the game to go 5-2 up.

Sinner served to stay in the game as Zverev was a game away from victory. The Italian fumbled early to see Zverev go up by a couple of points. The German saw an opportunity to feast on the advantage. He came down upon Sinner with all his might and walked away with the set breaking his service. The scoreline for the second set read 6-3 in favor of Zverev.
