Another incident occurred in 2014 ATP World Tour Finals. Roger Federer was set to face Novak Djokovic but was forced to pull out due to injury. To make matters worse, there were reports that Federer and compatriot Stan Wawrinka, had had a fall-out behind the scenes after their semi-final match.

Federer had hurt his back in the tie-break at the end of his semi-final victory over Wawrinka, which lasted two hours and 45 minutes. During the day the seven-time Wimbledon champion was suffering with back spasms.

ATP chairman Chris Kermode then called upon Murray to take Federer’s place in the exhibition match against Djokovic. As it turned out, the Scottish native was at home playing Mario Kart when the call came. “I was winning at that,” Murray said with a smile. “Mario Kart is better than my tennis.”

Murray is currently facing off against Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in the opening round of the Australian Open. In an emotional press conference, he expressed his hope to bow out of tennis at Wimbledon. However, his hip surgeon revealed that that could be a pipe dream. The match against Agut may turn out to be his last if he loses, else, he hopes to make it for Wimbledon.
