Andy Murray Continues Comeback with Rolex Shanghai Masters 2019 Wildcard

Former world No.1 Andy Murray will continue his singles comeback following hip surgery in January as he has accepted a wild card entry into next month’s Shanghai Masters.

The Shanghai Masters, which is the eighth masters 1000 tournament of the season announced that the three-time champion, Andy Murray has been awarded a wild card entry for the 2019 edition of the event scheduled from 5th October to 13th October.

Andy Murray currently holds a record of being youngest champion in the tournament’s history after he defeated Roger Federer in 2010. He then went on to lift the trophy two times in 2012 and 2016, with the latter being his most recent participation at the tournament.

Andy Murray, who played the challenger event – Rafa Nadal Open in Mallorca, last month is now due to play four events in a row as he continues his recovery from the hip resurfacing surgery.

The Scott will return to the ATP Tour at the Zhuhai Championships, which is scheduled to start from September 23. The 32-year-old will then play the China Open in the following week and has now committed to play for the third consecutive week at the Masters tournament in Asia.

The three-time Grand Slam champion wrote on Facebook, “I am pleased to announce that year I’ll be heading back to Shanghai. I’m really looking forward to be going back to Shanghai, a tournament I have had success at in the past – the last time I was there was in 2016.”

He further praised the tournament and said, “Thanks to the tournament for a wild card, it’s great to be able to continue my come back and play more tennis in China. Shanghai is a great city, I feel comfortable there and the fans are always supportive.”

Andy Murray is also enlisted for the European Open in Antwerp the week after the Shanghai Masters.
