Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is not giving any guarantees regarding the future of Anthony Martial at Old Trafford.
Martial was one of the many players absent at the pre-season USA tour. But his reasons were more personal, he was attending the birth of his second child in Paris. However, he did not re-join his team-mates in the USA after that.
Now, the 22-year-old has been rumoured to be moving away from the Red Devils. In fact, his agent claimed that Martial was seeking more lucrative options. Martial even missed United’s 2-1 International Champions Cup victory over Real Madrid.
The Premier League side are currently preparing to kick off their league campaign. Their opening match will be against Leicester City on August 10. But Mourinho was mum on any questions regarding Martial’s return.
Mourinho and press officer Karen Shotbolt both dodged questions pertaining to the Frenchman.
Earlier, that day, Mourinho’s men beat Champions League holders Madrid in Miami. Chilean star, Alexis Sanchez banged in his second goal in three matches. With that, he opened the floodgates.
Meanwhile, Madrid’s Karim Benzema fired back an answer in first-half stoppage time. Although Madrid had the upper hand in the second half, United prevailed to end their US tour on a high.
Mourinho was quick to praise his boys for their pre-season performance. But he confessed that it does not change anything. However, he knows which players to place his faith on. According to him, the boys are professionals and dedicate themselves to the club.
Coming back to the subject of Anthony Martial, there are several interested parties. Among them are Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea. Both teams have been eyeing the attacker for a while now. Meanwhile there are chances of a return to France with Ligue 1 club Marseille. Yet another interested team are Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich.
