Arsenal has just completed the signing of Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus. The Swiss international is the first signing for the Gunners under new manager Unai Emery.
Lichsteiner has had a decorated time during his stint at the Italian club, winning 7 titles in each of his 7 seasons at the club. He has been handed the number 12 shirt and will be competing with Hector Bellerin for a starting spot.
Interestingly, with the retirement of Per Mertesacker, Lichsteiner will be the most experienced member of Gunners backline. He will be marshaling the right side of the defense and is expected to bring a lot of quality to the side.
Once a part of the infamous and miserly Juventus defense alongside Barzagli, Bonucci, and Chiellini, Lichsteiner’s form has dropped over the last few seasons. He was off the pace last season but Arsenal fans will be hoping he can start a fresh chapter in London.
Speaking about his first recruit, Emery said,” Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad. He’s a player of great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”
