In a shock move, Aston Martin could well be looking ways for a shock return to Formula One in a tie-up with Red Bull starting the very next season.

Aston Martin and F1 has  been a distant relation so far, with the legendary company competing in a mere two seasons-1959 and 1960 with little to no success.

If negotiations do become successful, Red Bull would be relieved to give away the Renault Power Unit for next season and take over the Mercedes Power Unit to recognise them as the official engine supplier. Renault has largely struggled since the commencement of the V6 turbo era, losing to Mercedes last year, this year is particularly bad for Renault and Red Bull with multiple engine failures and penalties due to the power unit.

Head members at the Red Bull garage including Christian Horner and the two drivers, have been very vocal about Renault’s troubles, with Red Bull even threatening to quit F1 if things don’t improve. Red Bull’s owner Dietrich Mateschitz said last month Renault had “destroyed our enjoyment and motivation”, and he also ruled out becoming a customer to another engine supplier.

With their past success in the sports, Red Bull will be very fortunate if negotiations with Aston Martin and the Mercedes engine end up being successful.

While this is still a mere rumour, with both Aston Martin and Red Bull refusing to comment on the same, things can very possibly be true, especially seeing the struggles of Red Bull with Renault this season.
