Roger Federer won his first major title, the Wimbledon Championships in 2003, with his iconic ponytail look. His hair evolution was the next big thing apart from his game. Since then, the Swiss legend has treated the world with various looks from time to time. Now, it’s time for Lorenzo Musetti, who idolizes Federer, to treat the world with his new haircut. The Italian has long sported a ponytail look that earned him his vital wins, and his look was etched in the fans’ minds though they wondered how short hair would look on him.

Musetti put a full stop to all the imagination as he returned to a classic short hairstyle. The Italian revealed the reason behind it and how his girlfriend was there to support him all along.

The ATP star has been dating Veronica Confalonieri, a graphic designer for Sky Sports Italy. They made their relationship official in 2022 and have been spotted vacationing together quite a few times. Though Confalonieri stays in Milan, and Musetti has to commute frequently, the couple manages their time wisely and consult each other for decisions.

It has been only a few days since the Italian champion chopped his hair off, and it has already been the talk of the town. In an interview with ‘Tennis Channel,’ Musetti was asked how the decision has been made and what prompted him to cut his long hair. The 21-year-old said, “In Italy, it was so hot. I couldn’t move with the ponytail because it was really messy hair which I didn’t like.”

The 19th seed elaborated, “So I decided with my girlfriend. She approved. It was a joint decision. Even with my family. I think I look a little bit younger. With the long hair, I was a little bit older. I am prepared for the humid, and I don’t need to sweat so much.” His iconic long hair, which caused a fair amount of chatter, was the look he sported while clinging crucial wins – something that earned comparisons between Musetti and Federer.

Gianluca Naso, who retired in 2016, gave an interview to ‘Ubitennis’ three years back. In it, he expressed that he sees a bit of ‘King Roger’ in the Italian rising star, opining that Musetti looks and serves similarly to the Swiss Maestro. He also pointed out that Federer and Musetti were both sponsored by Nike, though Federer ended his contract in 2018.

The former 15th seed is a great Federer devotee and has been a fan of him since he could remember. Musetti was just a year old when Federer won his first major. Little did he know that 17 years later, he would casually hit the court with his idol during the 2020 Australian Open. It was the same year Musetti defeated the 23 major titles winner, Novak Djokovic.
