Sinner usually competes in many divisions in tournaments. While he mostly focuses on playing singles, he also fights the competition in doubles. He aimed for the same in the Shanghai Masters and entered with partner Zhang Zhizhen. However, he dropped out from doubles before it began, hoping to save his energy for his singles sting. Zhizen further explained the Italian 22-year-old’s decision in his post-match interview in Shanghai.

Yes, temporarily our doubles match tomorrow is cancelled, but of course we both will focus more on the singles, because singles are more important. Sinner also had a very good performance in China. For me, I’ve also played a lot of matches in China so far, so both of us would think that we need to focus more on singles. I will have a short practice tomorrow and then try to relax and restore and recover a little bit to face the next match.”
