Roger Federer‘s iconic persona has been hailed throughout his career both by fans and legends of the sport. In addition to his elegant playing style, the Swiss tennis legend is known for his kind and noble gestures toward everyone, including his opponents. This was epitomized when the 20-time Grand Slam champion was at the peak of his prowess in 2006 at the Indian Wells Masters.

The beneficiary of that act was the former American tennis player, James Blake, who injured his neck during his championship match against the Swiss Maestro. While reminiscing about his horrifying injury, the 43-year-old former tennis star revealed how he got a heartfelt note from the Swiss tennis legend.

The former world No. 4 recently joined the hosts of ‘The Pure Tennis Podcast’ in which he opened up about his tennis journey. While talking about some of the biggest names in the tennis world, Blake detailed a heartwarming incident involving Roger Federer.

The American tennis legend revealed how he once endured a devastating few months after his Indian Wells clash against the Swiss Maestro. Blake was in Rome when he found out about his neck injury due to which he was forced to pull out of various tournaments. During that adverse phase, many of his peers were busy with their own practice sessions and he didn’t receive much care and support from them.

However, it was the 2o-time singles Grand Slam champion who came forward to cheer him with a heartfelt note. Blake said, “I told the story when I lost him at Indian Wells in the finals, that when I did break my neck in Rome, I got one note in the hospital handwritten, and it was from Roger, saying, you know, get well soon and the guy was just genuinely was he is he is just genuinely a great guy.”

Blake repaid the kind gesture of Federer later in his career

A few seasons back, Federer was struggling with his knee injury due to which he missed out on various tournaments. Later, the Swiss tennis legend had to undergo knee surgery to avoid any serious repercussions from his injury. At that time, it was his rival, Blake, who showcased his support for Federer on social media.

After pointing out the Swiss tennis legend’s dominating performances in their matches, Blake asserted that Federer will return from surgery with a smile on his face and put him in his place.
