For the past 16 years, three names have dominated world tennis. Famously known as The ‘Big 3’, they continue to be at the heart of every conversation. As 1/3 of the ‘Big 3’, Novak Djokovic won his 6th Wimbledon title on Sunday, and he has brought the greats once again into the limelight.
Equaling the record of his fellow ‘G.O.A.T’s, Novak achieved a staggering 20th Grand Slam title win. With Roger Federer eliminated in the quarterfinals and Rafael Nadal not a part of the tournament, the title was Novak’s to win.

Throughout the competition, Novak ran riot on the court. With each game, he got only better and closer to the impossible, five-o dream. The Serbian’s legendary run of form caught the eye of a fellow legend. Former World No. 2, Alex Corretja, believes Novak is ready to beat the highest of records and become the greatest of all time.
“There he showed me that he was ready to be the best player in history,” the Spaniard said.
“This generation is unique”- Alex Corettja
Novak Djokovic walked into Wimbledon, having just won the French Open 2021. The opponent he defeated on his way to glory was current World No. 2 Rafael Nadal.
Impressed by that victory, Corettja said, “The best match of the year was the one where Djokovic beat Nadal at Roland Garros.”

The Spanish legend has seen it all in his playing days. From Grand Slam finals to winning his country their first Davis cup, he knows what it takes to be a ‘great’ in the game. Naturally, his idea of legendary does not quite match the modern generation.
“We grew up watching [Bjorn] Borg, [John] McEnroe, [Ivan] Lendl, [Mats] Wilander and none of them won 10 Grand Slams. We thought it would be impossible to overtake Sampras with 14. This generation is unique,” Alex said.

Can anyone stop Novak Djokovic?
Rumors of Rafael Nadal’s retirement increasingly grew after his exit from the 2021 French Open. Similarly, Roger Federer’s loss at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship also raised doubts about it being his last appearance on the grass court. Despite the speculations, the two have made no crucial announcements so far.
However, the other ‘G.O.A.T’ of the two has won 3 titles this year with 2 more go. Djokovic’s aim for this year will be to do the unthinkable and achieve the Golden Slam, winning all Slams and the Olympics gold this year. Will he be able to achieve that feat, or will he finally get beaten? Only time will tell.
