Carlos Alcaraz relives the surreal moment of being congratulated by the ‘legend’

Winning at Centre Court had long been a dream for the next-gen Spanish bull. But Carlos Alcaraz hadn?t expected to achieve it so early in his career. Being applauded by sporting greats and celebrities alike, the humble star opened up about his win when the Spanish national newspaper Marca asked him if any of his congratulatory messages stood out.

Citing one of his formative inspirations, tennis legend and fellow countryman Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz gushed: ?Rafa’s, whenever he congratulates you, Rafa makes you especially excited because in the end he is your idol.?

Nadal had also wished the younger Spaniard luck before the final, which the latter took to as a source of strength for what he called ?the most important moment? of his life. But Nadal was only the first in Carlos? long list of well-wishers as support poured in from all corners of the globe.

Elsewhere, the entertainment industry also extended its regard to the champion. The Colombian singer-songwriter Sebasti?n Yatra dedicated his release ?Vagabundo? to Carlos in a recent concert in Spain. Turns out, the hit summer song had been a part of Carlos’ Wimbledon playlist! I said, ?Wow! Look how far we?ve come!?

Alcaraz gives his thoughts on heralding a new era in tennis

Carlos Alcaraz may have accomplished a significant achievement in his career, but he is keen on continuing in perfect form over the remainder of the season. After an incredible grass-court swing, he has set his eyes on the Hopman Cup for now, which begins on the 19th of July.

However, when asked the million-dollar question of him heralding a new era in men?s tennis, Carlos had a humble yet selfish answer. Denying that a new era could even exist with Rafa and Djokovic still on the circuit, he claimed that the debate could only be addressed later in time. Meanwhile, his SW19 victory, he says, is ?for myself and my team, not to start an Era.?

What do you think? Is this perhaps the beginning of the end of The Big Three? Or is Alcaraz right about their domination?
