Many fans felt that Djokovic’s use of the word was inappropriate and insensitive. Moreover, numerous fans also felt that the break was an attempt to gain an unfair advantage. Many players and media criticized the Serb for his actions. However, the Nole argued that he was simply trying to express his frustration with the criticism he has received over the years.

Djokovic responded to a report that he defied the chair umpire’s instructions. Fans and the media thought that the Serb had taken an unapproved toilet break during the play after his first-round match.

Djokovic explained that the implied meaning was very different from reality. The Nole bemoaned the fact that he was being attacked for an essentially irrelevant situation. He also asked why the ATP and Australian Open organizers hadn’t stood up for him as the media was “lynching” him.

Djokovic was also spotted animatedly disputing with the chair umpire. He had asked for the removal of a few onlookers who were unduly heckling him. Roddick praised Djokovic for his calm and collected handling of the noisy supporters, but felt that he could have handled the argument over the toilet break far better. The American tweeted, “And as well as he handled the above situation on video, his word choice of lynching when referring to someone writing a bad article about going pee-pee, was bad.”
