Jim Courier seems to talk about Rafael Nadal’s past injury just before his coming back into the Tennis world. It’s been quite a while since the tennis community witnessed Rafael Nadal‘s ferocious forehand and triumphs on the court. The Spanish tennis legend has rarely picked up his racket for a couple of competitive matches and has remained on the sidelines for almost the entire season. It was a hip injury that forced the 22-time singles Grand Slam champion into a lengthy hiatus that is now coming to an end.

The ‘King of the Clay’ is touted to return to the tour for the first Grand Slam event that takes place in Melbourne, Australia. However, before his much-awaited comeback, the former world No. 1 player recently received a major warning from the American tennis veteran, Jim Courier.

In the latest episode of the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast show, the Hall of Famer expressed his reservations about the Spaniard’s return to the ATP tour. As Rafael Nadal is now inching closer to his comeback in the new season, Jim Courier recalled a ‘bad move’ that was made by Roger Federer in 2021.

“What you hope not to see is what happened to Roger and Roger really worked hard to get back and he was ready. And then it was one bad move in Halle you know, one little slip and that was really the end of it for him,” said the former tennis ace. Just like Nadal, his former Swiss colleague also took a break from competitive matches during the 2020 grass court season.

Federer returned to action in the very next season, in March; however, he failed to taste any glory following his comeback.  The 20-time singles Grand Slam champion experienced back-to-back lackluster campaigns in various tournaments, including the Geneva Open. Even at the ATP Tour 500 series in Halle, the Swiss faced an early round defeat as he failed to mark any triumphant run.

While fearing that Nadal might also repeat the same, Courier also opened up about how he is tracking the Spaniard’s progress.

During the podcast show, the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion also revealed that he is keeping tabs on the Spaniard’s progress on social media. Courier said that he has been watching videos of Rafael Nadal working out hard on equipment like a treadmill during his road to recovery. Before his comeback, the American asserted that the ATP superstar’s effort level was going to be supreme. Courier said, “And one thing we know is his effort level is going to be supreme.”
