But now that the Australian Open is going on, the seven-time Grand Slam champion has been facing a little flak regarding one of the comments that he made during the tournament.

Now that the elder brother has got tennis fans’ attention in the wrong light, a fan also pointed fingers at Patrick’s commentary skills. But rather than sitting quietly, the 57-year-old former tennis player shut down a fan and style for his Australian Open commentary.

As someone who was quite active during the Australian Open, Patrick took to his Twitter account to share his update regarding what the second round of the Slam looked like. He wrote, “One of the best days at a major…..ever.” 

But the former world number one came up with another shocker during Alex de Minaur’s match on Friday night: a fan pointed fingers at the 57-year-old American tennis player’s commentary skills. The tennis fan clearly highlighted how he was unhappy with the way he had been commentating throughout the night. Fan stated, “I was reminded by your commentary tonight how annoying you are.”

Let’s take a look at what John did that created chaos in the tennis world as he displayed his quirky commentating style at the Australian Open. It all started when the seven-time Grand Slam champion made a funny mixup regarding Alex de Minaur being called a demon.

When John McEnroe called Alex de Minaur a ‘Demon’

Earlier this week, Minaur won the third round and became the first Australian to make it to the fourth round of the tournament since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005. During the Channel 9 commentary, when Todd Woodbridge mentioned his nickname as Demon, McEnroe was not aware of the nickname and showed off his commentatory skills then and there.

He said, “Do you know how he got the demon as his nickname? Obviously, to do with his speed, I’m assuming (speed demon).” But after having an awkward silence, Woodbridge and Jim Courier tried to figure out and cover up the comment made by their fellow commentator. While one explained the reason behind it, and Courier highlighted how the seven-time Grand Slam champion was just joking about the nickname.
