The classic semi-final match of the US Open between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer is engraved in the minds of tennis enthusiasts. The Swiss player had mulled over his unbelievable defeat after leading in the first two sets.

Roger Federer could not make his peace with the defeat against Novak Djokovic

The Swiss Maestro and the Serbian player engaged in an enthralling yet exhausting five-set semi-final. In the end, Djokovic reigned the match, and Federer was left with a shocking defeat. In the post-match conference, Federer said“It’s awkward having to explain this loss because I feel like I should be doing the other press conference.” The defeat felt uncanny as Djokovic had stunned the Swiss player in the same manner in the 2010 edition of the US Open.

His opponent did not commend the Serb’s forehand that saved the match point. Contrary to that, Federer termed it as a lucky factor for the Serb. He said, “You feel like he was mentally out of it already. Just gets the lucky shot at the end, and off you go.” Djokovic, however, accepted that it was a chance shot that worked in his favor.

But Federer seemed adamant about categorizing it as luck and did not give his opponent for the courageous act at that point of the match. He said, “Confidence? Are you kidding me?” He believed that what Djokovic did was not out of the ordinary. He said, “Some players grow up and play like that, I never played that way.” The Swiss Maestro made his discontent about the game-changing shot, he said, “Maybe he’s been doing it for 20 years, so for him, it was very normal.

Djokovic went on to win the US Open in 2011. The H2H series of the players is in favor of the Serb by the ratio of 27:23. All ‘Big 3’ had 20 grand slam titles at the beginning of this year. However, the race is now in favor of the Spanish tennis legend, Rafael Nadal.

Rafa has won 22 grand slam titles and leads the count, followed by Djokovic at 21. Djokovic’s journey toward equalizing the score might end this year because of his vaccination status. It debars him from entering the US.
