Imagine learning a sport, carefully articulating your craft, and succeeding at the most prestigious level. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the embodiment of Roger Federer. Having risen to prominence from a small village in Switzerland, the former World No. 1 tries his level best to give back to the community. Although those plans were derailed for quite some time, the ‘Swiss Maestro’ will finally have a sigh of relief. A significant contribution of his is slated to come through after years of legal disputes.

The fact that Federer trained at the TC Old Boys in Basel during his childhood is not hidden. At age eight, the 20-time Major winner joined the academy where he stayed until he won the U14 Swiss national junior championship at age 14, earning him a spot at the Swiss Tennis House national training center in Biel. With his career wrapped in 2022 at the Laver Cup, Federer has been desperately trying to search for a way to help budding athletes, who like him, wish to pursue their dreams with the utmost dedication.

Naturally, having played at the club as a junior, Federer thought it best to give TC Boys a do-over. When he was first shown the development plans for the club in 2016, the Swiss icon pledged a ‘substantial sum’ for his dream ‘Roger Federer Hall’ project. But, as luck would have it, the 8 million francs program was met with major resistance. Locals took to the streets, stressing the imminent noise and light emissions slated to be caused due to the structure’s height. While the original plan outlined the sport being played on the roof, those plans have met with a change now.

As objections were raised, the Basel-Stadt Court of Appeal directed the hall to submit its development plans in 2021. Following years of legal scrutiny, the Basel Parliament has finally approved the project but, without any spaces on the roof. Regardless, it’s good news for Federer as his much-awaited plans will finally come into motion.

During an appearance on ’60 Minutes’ after capping the 2023 season, Nole expressed willingness to consider a friendship with the legendary duo, Federer and Nadal. “I would like to. Personally, I would like to. I mean, I know that obviously, we didn’t get along so well throughout our careers in, like, off-court. I hope that one day, when the curtains are slightly more closed, we are, yeah, able to sit down and, and reflect. It would be amazing.”

After all, the trio has been through so much. Years of rivalry come with unforgettable memories which would be a treat to laugh over once the trio decides on connecting and reliving their glory days as fans would imagine for them.
