“Bonus for Me”: Roger Federer Optimistic Regarding ATP Tour Comeback in 2022

After a difficult loss to Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon this year, Swiss Maestro Roger Federer announced his decision to put an end to his 2021 season and informed fans about a third knee surgery he was bound to undergo.
Since then, there has been no update from Federer regarding the status of his knee until recently when he showed up surprisingly at the Laver Cup event in Boston. The Swiss player was seen walking with the help of crutches as he didn’t want to strain his knee soon after the surgery.

Roger Federer was seen at the Boston edition of Laver Cup this year
Before the Laver Cup began, Federer talked about his knee situation and explained that it was a long road to recovery for him. He also expressed his desire to play next year’s Laver Cup in London.
In another interview with GQ, the Swiss Maestro talked about a range of topics right from his playing days to Emma Raducanu‘s recent success at US Open. When asked about how does he feel on turning forty recently, the Swiss gave an elaborate answer.

“Actually, I’m excited, even though I make jokes – ‘I can’t believe I’m 40! It’s terrible!’ But overall, I think I’m excited. I remember turning 20. You think you know who you are but you really have no clue! At 30, you have a pretty good idea, figuring it out, but at 40, I think you know”, said Federer.

“We have a wonderful life and can’t complain”- Federer reflects on career and personal life
The 20-time major champion continued, “Right now, my life’s in a really good place with my wife, my four children. I mean, my girls are already 12. I was 28 when I had them, and then my boys are seven now. So, I mean, look, we have a wonderful life and I can’t complain”.

While talking about his stint on the ATP tour even at 40, the Swiss Maestro gracefully accepted the fact that these comeback are just a bonus to him as he is happy with the way his career panned out.
“In regards to the tour, I mean, these extra rounds of it that I’m doing, for many years, this is all a bonus for me. So now I’m looking forward to the next 40 and spending some more time with friends and my family because that’s also one thing I’ve clearly missed the past year,” concluded the Swiss star.

Even though there is no exact date on when Federer might return to the ATP tour next year, it’s evident that he would like to continue playing the game as long as his body can handle it for.
