Frances Tiafoe has undoubtedly become one of the biggest contenders for the ongoing US Open title after reaching the top 10 spots of the ATP rankings in 2022. While showcasing his remarkable tennis prowess, ‘Bigfoe’ has also brought to light his exuberant and ferociously expressive personality on the court. It is quite evident in his impassioned performances, gestures, and even in his post-match celebrations. In a recent interview with GQ, the current world No. 10 was questioned if he typically shuts his phone down in the weeks before matches. It was asked in light of his decision to go to full-on airplane mode prior to the previous season’s Grand Slam event in New York.

“I’m pretty closed off. I do my thing, keep it super low-key,” Tiafoe answered. The American tennis player also said that he is quite excited to be back at his home hardcourt major event while aiming for a historic US Open title. However, his major assertions were followed by a cryptic response, “You can get lost in the city pretty easy, so I have to be real with myself.”

Decoding the meaning behind his response, ‘Bigfoe’ said that he doesn’t like to spend any extra energy on unnecessary activities like going out for dinner during a tournament. The young tennis star also spoke candidly about how he tries to “disconnect” while avoiding distractions like social media, as he prefers to stay in the moment. He said, “Maybe I’ll talk to my family quickly, but not on social media other than quick posts I may need to do.”

The American’s “super low-key” revelations might come as a huge surprise as he previously opened up about how he likes to be intensely expressive.
