“Once we step on the court, there are no friends here on tour, but after that, after the court, I have a really good relationship with a lot of players, and one of them is Novak,” said Carlos Alcaraz, earlier this year, on his equation with the 24-time Grand Slam champion. The two have faced each other on several occasions now which sparks the question: Do they also know each other on a personal level? Sadly, it doesn’t seem to be the case. And it becomes evident from Carlos’ latest remark on the Serbian. Not to mention it’s stunned their fans as well on social media. But hey, there’s nothing serious here!
It’s a festive season and everyone is preparing to welcome Christmas in the coming days. And what’s the best way to show warmth towards each other? Of course, it’s the sweet gesture of giving precious gifts to your loved ones, family members, and friends. But what would the ATP stars gift to their on-court rivals on Christmas? That’s exactly what a new clip from Tennis Channel’s Instagram has revealed. Interestingly, it features none other than Spanish sensation and four-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz was asked about the gifts he would like to give to his on-court rivals, including Novak Djokovic. And he had a shocking answer. So what did he say? “Thinking about like, really a good Spanish ham. Let’s say a good one,” said an innocent Alcaraz. Well, he’s clearly not aware of the fact Novak Djokovic only follows a plant-based diet.

For those unaware, Novak wasn’t always a vegan. This massive change came only after 2010. In the past, he used to eat animal products but made a transition to plant-based products more than a decade ago. In his initial years, he used to fall sick and it was after advice by the dietitian Igor Cetojevic that he made an immediate change in his diet. Djokovic now only prefers plant-based products and promotes them too.
Novak even mentioned details on his vegan diet in his 2013 book titled ‘Serve to Win: The 14-Day Gluten-Free Plan for Physical and Mental Excellence’. “From sport, the movie industry, different fields of life, very successful people who are eating plant-based, being healthy, happy and successful in what they do. This is what it is all about,” he said while motivating others to make this change in their lifestyle.

One fan praised Carlos’ ideas for Jannik and Rafa, but they were confused about why he chose to gift a Ham to Novak. On a side note, the fan showed a personal interest in the Ham in case the Serbian refused it. “He really thought of some nice gifts. But Nole is a plant-based eater so the ham for this team and family. If not, I can take that ham Carlitos.” Another X user echoed this sentiment and wrote, “Djokovic’s vegan”
One more individual highlighted the fact that Novak is a pure vegan. And that a Ham won’t be a perfect gift for him anyway. They wrote, “Djokovic is mostly vegetarian & vegan @carlitosalcarazz” What are your thoughts on the Spaniard’s gift ideas for Novak? Do you think he mentioned a Ham out of sheer ignorance?
