Earlier, 36-year-old Ukrainian tennis player, Sergiy Stakhovsky decided to join the military reserves to stand with his country. Although the tennis player doesn’t have any previous experience, he has still joined the forces. 

At the moment, the conflict between the two European countries is causing a serious issue around the world. Many players are in favor of peace, instead of any conflict. However, players like Stakhovsky are trying to defend their country in their own way by joining the forces. Recently, he shared a post describing the situation in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

As Stakhovsky announced he would join the military, the tennis player described his second day in the Ukrainian capital. According to him, no one will give up and the spirits are high. 

“Day #2 in Kyiv starts. People around me in high spirits… no one is willing to surrender,” Stakhovsky wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, in an interview with Sky Sports, Stakhovsky talked about joining the forces for his country. “I signed up for the reserves last week. I don’t have military experience but I do have experience with a gun privately. My dad and brother are surgeons, they are stressed out, but I speak to them frequently they sleep in the basement,” Stakhovsky said in that interview.

“It makes the world of difference to our armed forces that they are not alone, at least in a media environment, but let’s be realistic here, it’s been eight years of war with Russia, where was all of this for eight years? None of us believed that this could happen, and yet it happened,” the tennis player further said.

Notably, Stakhovsky’s biggest achievement came in 2013 at the Wimbledon when beat Roger Federer in the second round. 

Other Ukrainian players join the protest

Renowned Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina also joined the protest as she decided not to play against Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova. She will only play if ATP, WTA, ITF follow the recommendations of IOC (International Olympic Committee). 

Ukrainian tennis duo, Dayana Yastremska and her sister Ivanna Yastremska came to the court yesterday in Lyon wearing their national flag around their shoulder to show their support for their country.
