While the tennis fan praised the premium and special feel of the tournament, she had many points of criticism for the tournament. One of her biggest complaints came about the price of the tickets. “For the price of a mid-lower bowl seat for one session yesterday, you could have bought tickets for multiple days at a grand slam.”

Additionally, the lackluster energy also irked her. “I love the captains, but the lack of energy on the bench this year in particular has been starkly noticeable. There’s barely anyone who has experienced a Davis Cup or similar, so they mostly sit like mute spectators and look as if they don’t care.”

The missing energy even made her miss Nick Kyrgios. “Hell, I even almost miss that Aussie dude.” The complaints didn’t end there, as more insight was provided by Claire.

Addition to format and missing legends

In addition to the points Claire provided above, she also stated that the championship needs more matches of a particular kind. “The format – NEED MORE DOUBLES. The best energy this year has come from matchups you wouldn’t see on tour.”

Further, she also talked about one of the biggest parts of the event this year. During Federer’s interview, Rafael Nadal popped up for a surprise and asked the Swiss Maestro a question. When he came on the jumbotron, the crowd wen wild, and everyone was sitting patiently for Federer’s reply. “For this event to prosper, in my humble (somewhat biased, of course) fan opinion, needs them both to take an active visible part for this event to survive.”

While Claire’s comments were scathing, she said that she loves the event and does not want it to die out. Therefore, she shared her comments and hoped that viewers would not be deterred from watching it next year and that more players would want to participate in the event as well.
