Italian prodigy Jannik Sinner may have become a sensation overnight. But years of hard work, dedication, and patience are what made him a Top-5 champion. The Italian has achieved his career-high ranking after winning the third ATP title of 2023. His win against the former World No.1, Carlos Alcaraz, in the semifinals, was a turning point as it moved his ranking 3 places. In his previous matches, the rocketing star defeated some of the best players on the ATP Tour. On his quest for the China Open title, Sinner defeated Dimitrov, Alcaraz, and Medvedev in consecutive matches. These games demand intense strength and flawless footwork to return the big serves.
In a recent press conference, a reporter asked the Italian how he felt about his physical and mental strength, given his gruesome schedule. Sinner shared, “Yeah, I mean, our schedule throughout the year is quite busy, so every time when you have a chance to practice, it’s good for me, especially for me because I feel my body’s not at the hundred percent. “

The World No.4 revealed the tactics and said, “So we’re going to work a lot on this from now on for the next couple of years, most likely, and trying to raise everything a little bit higher.” Sinner is only the second Italian player in history to make it to the Top-5. Matteo Berrettini was the world No.6 at one point, but could not move one place up.
Sinner made it possible because he continued to push his limits while practicing rigorously. Sharing his crucial training regime, he said, “Sometimes, you know, like for us, when we take the weeks off or when we don’t play tournaments or all this stuff, that’s the moment when we are practicing quite hard to improve.”

Talking about essential breaks between the tournaments, Sinner said, “We have done this already two or three times throughout this year, regardless about the results we are making in the tournament because we feel like that’s good for my body, first of all, and also for the future. We just try to invest in my body and also trying to raise our level.”
Sinner’s approach to participating in tournaments helped him qualify for his career’s first ATP World Tour Finals. The Wimbledon Championships semi-finalist is the third Italian to win 50 matches in a season. The cherry on top is Sinner is the only Italian to achieve the glory in 45 years! Only Corrado Barazzutti and Flavia Panatta won more than him, with 54 and 53 wins, respectively.

If Sinner maintains his current form, surpassing Barazzutti’s 54 wins is achievable. The Italian will play Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in the second round in Shanghai. The two have never played, and Baez has won three singles titles this year.
