Tennis sees new stars rising every day. This sport has a huge pool of young talents where players as young as 18 compete in the Grand Slams. However, no one is prepared for the saddening news of the passing away of a rising talent. And Colorado College broke to the world one such update earlier this month. With a heavy heart, the authorities announced the demise of a tennis protégé, Jack Madison. Madison was 20 and had an acute hernia condition that took him away in his sleep. The young player was at his home the night of the incident.

While this news shook the tennis world, there are really no words that can comfort Madison’s family.

Madison was originally from Bexley, Ohio. He went to Columbus Academy. The young student-athlete was a promising four-time letter winner at school. The young tennis player was also honored with first-team all-state twice and was the two-time recipient of the all-league honors.

“We are devastated by the tragic passing of Jack Madison,” says the Vice President and Director of Athletics at Colorado College, Lesley Irvine.

“Jack was a treasured member of our men’s tennis program. His loss will be profoundly felt throughout the athletics department and campus community.”

According to Madison’s obituary, the student-athlete was going to become a history teacher. He planned to major in history with a minor in journalism.

Madison and tennis: a wonderful journey

Recently, the SCAC- South Collegiate Athletic Conference posted this heartbreaking news on Twitter. The 2021 graduate was so in love with the game that after he competed in the Division II individual, he went on to play in state tournaments as a senior.

After he joined Colorado as a sophomore, he kept going on with his tennis career.

While trying to clinch doubles matches, Madison usually played with Arie Tuckerman, his cousin. The boys even turned heads when they reached the OHSAA state final in doubles in 2021.

Grabbing the spotlight, Madison, during his time at Columbus contributed to the Academy. Moreover, he went on to finish third in the OTCA team state tournament.

Madison enjoyed playing and winning his matches despite being forced to serve underhand with his hernia condition. His coaches also agree that he was in a lot of pain, yet showed up on the court whenever he could, and truly enjoyed the game. Further, he had to undergo surgery for his condition after his pain grew fatal throughout the season.
