Over recent years, there has been a massive rise in young talent in men’s tennis. The likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev have enthralled tennis fans with their audacious displays. Despite this, there has been one constant thing on the ATP Tour. Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have dominated in big tournaments, especially the Grand Slam tournaments.

Take the example of this season. In the three major tournaments this year, Nadal has won the Australian Open and the French Open, while Djokovic prevailed in the Wimbledon Championships. Recently, Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj talked about Nadal and Djokovic’s chances at the US Open.

During an exclusive interview with Essentially Sports, the tennis Hall of Famer opened up about the rise of young talent in tennis while talking about Djokovic and Nadal’s chances at the US Open this year. He said, “It’s going to be interesting to see the US Open because at the moment, Djokovic cannot play and it’s going to be, is going to be interesting to see if Nadal is going to be fit enough and strong enough to play in well-heated from the stomach injury as well…”

Further, talking about Federer’s comeback, he said, “So, we’ll wait and see also whether Federer plans to make a comeback and thinks he can come back and play on the hard courts in the US Open. But, but we’re still waiting for that all important outsider or a challenger to pick up a Grand Slam this year.”

Nadal suffers a massive blow ahead of the US Open

Earlier this week, the 22-time Grand Slam champion pulled out of the National Bank Open in Montreal after failing to recover in time from his abdominal injury. He suffered this injury during his quarterfinal match against Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon. Subsequently, he withdrew from the grass-court Grand Slam tournament before his semifinal match against Nick Kyrgios.
