‘Feels So Sad’ – World No. 10 Hubert Hurkacz Expresses His Concern Over the Ukraine-Russia Crisis

The tension between nations doesn’t just affect the people suffering but also causes mental disturbance around the world. The World No. 10 Hubert Hurkacz is no different. Recently, the Polish player expressed his concern over the issue in an interview with Essentially Sports, hoping for peaceful times in the world.

Even though Hubert started his 2022 season with 3 out of 4 match wins at the ATP Cup. However, he has been unable to maintain his form in the following tournaments. After facing second losses in the Australian Open and Rotterdam Open and a semi-final loss in Dubai, Hubert is back in Miami with a hope to defend his 2021 title.

Hubert recently indulged in an exclusive interview with Essentially Sports. The player spoke on a variety of topics ranging from his latest performance, his career, personal life, participation in the ‘sunshine doubles’ amongst others. However, what deserved special attention was his view on the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

Hubert elaborated on his 2022 goals when the Essentially Sports interviewer Mahalaxmi Murli asked Hubert about his views on the Ukraine-Russia crisis. Taking the question, Hubert expressed his concern over the saddening situation saying,“Very sad in this time that things like these are happening. So just being super sad for all the people in Ukraine. Just wish it’s going to end as soon as possible”

“Just hopefully healthy, hopefully you’ll never end up. There were things like this throughout everyone’s lifestyle. “But yeah just this…feels so sad that things like these are happening.” 

Apart from the crisis, he also spoke about his plans for the upcoming matches. Including his preparation for the ‘Sunshine doubles’ and defending the title at the ATP Masters 1000 Miami.

Reaching the quarterfinal at the ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells, Hubert Hurkacz broke into the Top 10 ATP rankings for the first time in October 2021. He further improved his rankings to 9 by reaching the semifinal of the ATP Masters 1000 Paris. However, he went out to finish his year with a round-robin loss at the Nitto ATP Finals.

Hoping to regain his form, Hubert started his 2022 season at the ATP Cup, winning 3 out of 4 matches he played. However, the high run was short-lived. Hoping to his name in the history books of the Australian Open, he started his Melbourne Park campaign with a first-round win over Egor Gerasimov. However, he failed to cross the 2nd round, being beaten by Adrian Mannarino.

The downfall wasn’t over yet as he faced another 2nd round defeat at the ATP 500 Rotterdam. Undergoing 2 second-round losses, Hubert made a partial comeback, reaching the semi-finals of the ATP 500 Dubai.
