Officials once forced Stan Wawrinka and Nick Kyrgios to separate in the locker room after their infamous clash at the 2015 Canadian Open. In 2022, fresh details have arisen about the interactions.


A retired tennis official has revealed details of the moment Wawrinka attacked Nick Kyrgios in the Canadian Open locker room. Kyrgios had made a messy comment at Wawrinka on the court. The Swiss player only realized what Kyrgios said much later. And it did not sit well with him.

Kyrgios has lost his temper several times during his career. On the court, Kyrgios made unsavory comments to Wawrinka about his then-girlfriend, Donna Vekic. In the second set of the second round match of the Rogers Cup, people heard the controversial Kyrgios sayingKokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate” on the court microphone.

The retired official shared,” Wawrinka hadn’t heard (the insult live), but Kyrgios’ comments were on TV because of the microphones on the court.”

He further added that Wawrinka got to know about it from a journalist at a press conference. This led to the athlete getting furious. Wawrinka left the press conference and dashed to the locker room. That’s where Kyrgios was present.

The official recollected, “They had to be separated because, it risked degenerating quickly.

Kyrgios requested for the assault charges to be dropped

Nick Kyrgios’ lawyers had requested the court to drop the case against his client, citing some of Kyrgios’ public statements. The charges stemmed from an incident in 2021 involving a former girlfriend. If convicted of the assault charge, it carries a prison sentence of up to two years.

They had adjourned the case until next year. As per reports, the tennis star will undergo a mental health examination as well.
