Andy Murray was one of the biggest players to step up to the challenge of the big three. Since 2010, he has been a player to watch out for, and 2016 has been his best year so far. However, after 2016, a series of injuries sidelined him, and he was not one of the top players anymore. Further, the struggle has only increased. The former number 1 is having a difficult time keeping his spirits up this year.

Murray’s best result came in the  2023 Surbiton Trophy. He won the championship resoundingly with a final score of 6-3 6-2. But above the ATP Challenger tour, Murray has not fared well, and the constant losses are affecting his morale.

In the Paris Masters, Murray stepped in to aim to make it far. However, his dreams came crashing down as he lost to Alex De Minaur in three sets. He packed his bags after another frustrating result. The three-time grand slam champion talked to the press about his despair during the post-match interview.

“It’s frustrating. I’m not really enjoying it just now in terms of how I feel on the court and how I’m playing. The last five, six months haven’t been that enjoyable, so I need to try and find some of that enjoyment back because playing a match like that, there’s not much positivity there.”

He further stated that the will to win and fight has always been a big part of his game. But during the match against De Minaur, he said that he didn’t know what happened, and that it was not his best effort.

He also said, “The way that I’m feeling and playing on the court – I haven’t felt good about my game for large parts of this year. You obviously want to be seeing progress and feeling like you’re getting closer to something, and I haven’t really felt like that.”

The frustration in his mind shone through after the match concluded as he took his anger out on the racket.
