Taking his stand ahead, he feels that Wimbledon’s decision to ban players is unfair.
End of April, Wimbledon announced that it is banning Russian and Belarusian players from competing at this year’s Wimbledon. The officials of SW19 supported their decision by calling it a way of protest against the position of the two countries in the conflict. Daniil Medvedev criticizes Wimbledon
Medvedev is one of the few players who have been criticizing Wimbledon since the time it announced its decision. At first, the 26-year-old appealed to the officials of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to take back the decision. Supporting his appeal, he put up the point that banning players from competing wouldn’t make any difference in the current situation between the two countries. Going further, he suggested that the players could instead donate the prize money to the cause.
Following his appeal, he underwent a procedure for Hernia that kept him away from the tennis world for close to two months. Missing out on almost the entire clay-court season, Medvedev made a comeback at the Geneva Open. However, struggling with form, he suffered a second-round loss to Richard Gasquet.

While in Geneva, Medvedev once again put forward his views on Wimbledon’s ban while talking to a Swiss French-language daily. On one hand, he claimed to have an understanding of the decision. However, on the other hand, he asserted that the decision is unfair and will set a precedent for other sports.
Talking to the media house, he said, “On the one hand, I can understand it and, on the other, I find it unfair. This is a delicate situation because it sets a precedent and puts other sports competitions in an uncomfortable position.”
