The Indian Wells Masters has ended, and the young Carlos Alcaraz Garfia has won his third ATP Masters. Alcaraz faced Daniil Medvedev in The Indian Wells Tennis Garden and emerged triumphant in straight sets. The finals saw a score of 6-3, 6-2 in a dominant display by Alcaraz. Post the match, Alcaraz made sure to sign as many cards, balls, etc., of his fans. In the post-match interview, Alcaraz talked about just why it was important for him to take the time out for his fans to sign anything he could for them.

This move from Alcaraz is reminiscent of something Roger Federer did in 2014. After his first three matches, Federer took the time out to sign all that he could. He spent approximately 16 minutes signing for his fans. Alcaraz’s move last night reminded everyone of a young Federer.

In the post-match interview with Tennis Channel, Jim Courier and Steve Weissman interviewed the Indian Wells champion. They discussed his match against Medvedev. Alcaraz had nothing but praise for his opponent. After the match, Alcaraz won over fans a second time after he took the time to sign over 300 autographs.

Courier and Weissman asked Alcaraz why signing for most fans was imperative for him. As per Alcaraz’s logic, the player is alone on the court during the match. The only support in that instance is the fans watching and cheering them on. Therefore, signing for his fans is his way of showing his appreciation.

Well, I always say that to have a lot of fans supporting you is very important, you know, on court. So many things can happen; of course, there will be tough moments on the court. Nobody is there with you; all you have is the support of all the fans. All I can do is sign the balls, the hats, to make them happy,” Alcaraz said about his post-match interaction.

He further went on to say, “For me, let’s say, there is not too much to sign for them and make them happy. So for me, it’s unbelievable to have a lot of people behind me and support me. Even if it’s the day of the match for me, it’s a pleasure for me to sign for them.”

Roger Federer being remembered due to Alcaraz

At the 2014 US Open, Federer spent close to 15 minutes giving autographs to his fans. The adage of Federer always playing in front of a home crowd was proven true. When asked what Federer loved signing the most, he said that anything that has his branding on it becomes his favorite. Federer added that he did so because he felt these people actually care about him. Just like Alcaraz, Federer loved to sign for his fans.
