This year’s Australian Open has already made headlines, courtesy of the Novak Djokovic saga. Since the deportation of the Serbian, all eyes have turned to Melbourne. Notably, the Slam finally started on 17th January as scheduled and has provided quite an interesting 2 days so far. 

The first two days of the Australian Open saw some intense matches, incredible shots, a few upsets, and much more. Fans have seen some incredible shots from day 2, especially from Nick Kyrgios. However, on day 3, we saw one of the most incredible and intelligent shots in the men’s singles second-round match. 

Incredible shot on Day 3 of the Australian Open

In the second round match between no.19 seed from Spain, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherland, the world saw something incredible. In the 3rd set, Griekspoor tried to hit an overhead smash, but he miss-timed it pretty badly. The ball fell onto Carreno Busta’s side of the court but came spinning back to Griekspoor’s court. 

Many players would have given up on the point. But the Spaniard didn’t, and he ran furiously to get the ball. He had to go around the net to his opponent’s court to hit the ball and win the point. The Spaniard practically didn’t have any choice but to go to his opponent’s court to win the point.

Results of days 1 & 2 so far

On the first day, no.6 seed Rafael Nadal cakewalked in his first match, beating Marcos Giron by 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. No.3 seed and the current World no.3 Alexander Zverev had to fight hard to beat his fellow countryman Daniel Altmaier by 7-6, 6-1, 7-6.

No.1 seed Ashleigh Barty won her first women’s singles match pretty easily by beating Lesia Tsurenko, 6-0,6-1. There were a few big upsets on the first day, as teenage sensation Coco Gauff was knocked out of her first match by Qiang Wang of China. In another match, British no.1 Cameron Norrie lost to Sebastian Korda of the USA. 

On the second day, all the top seeds from both men’s and women’s singles qualified for the second round. However, 3-time Grand Slam winner, Angelique Kerber, lost in the first-round match against Kaia Kanepi of Estonia. At the same time, 2-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova lost to Sorana Cirstea of Romania. 

Day three is up and running with many top seeds aiming for the third round.
