It was quite a disappointing moment for fans when Roger Federer decided to withdraw from the Miami Open 2021. Fans were expecting that they might see Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Federer together at the same event after a long time.
However, it appears that the Swiss Maestro isn’t fully ready for the ATP 1000 Masters tournament yet. Recently, James Blake, Tournament Director of the Miami Open 2021, said that he hopes that Roger Federer would return to the Miami Open 2021.
He believes that he might reconsider his plan of withdrawal from the event. “We certainly would have loved Roger to return to Miami to defend his title,” said Blake in a recent interview.

Federer has won the Miami Open 2021 4 times. He also won it in 2019, the last time it took place, after defeating John Isner in the finals.
As the tournament didn’t take place in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Federer would be starting as the defending champion if he comes back.
Although Blake expressed a desire of having Federer in Miami, he admitted that he would want Roger to be 100% fit before that.
“However, as a former player, I understand that you need to travel and playing schedule to properly work your way back to 100 percent fitness when coming off an injury,” added the former World No.4.
