“Kept Me From Playing My Best Tennis”: Nick Kyrgios Announces Unfortunate News

Since the Australian Open 2021, Nick Kyrgios hasn’t had any success on the ATP Tour. Recently, he represented Team World at the Laver Cup, but they again lost to Team Europe, with a scoreline of 14-1. As a result, both experts and fans wondered what happened to the lightning game of the Aussie maverick. And now, Kyrgios has responded.
Unfortunately, the reason behind his inferior performances was injury-related. The 26-year-old revealed that he is suffering from left knee patella tendinopathy, which causes pain below the kneecap on the front side until the shin. In time, it also makes playing a professional sport difficult.

Due to the injury, Kyrgios has decided to fly back to Australia and recover. He is also looking forward to getting a PRP treatment and return for the Australian Open 2022 with 100% health.
Given his potential, the Aussie can be a serious threat to all the top tennis players in the world. However, a lack of consistency has kept away from major success on Tour.
Nick Kyrgios updates on his plan for the rest of the 2021 season
From the start of the US Open series, Kyrgios had trouble with his body but hadn’t made it clear. Although he continued to play, he couldn’t bring out his best self. And now, if he decides to ignore his injury, he might worsen the situation. Thus, taking a break is his best option.
“Hey guys, over the last couple months, I haven’t been near 100% healthy. I’ve been dealing with left knee patella [tendinopathy], and continuing to play without fully treating it can lead to further pain and greater set backs,” Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram story.

Additionally, he also expressed his disappointment at not performing at his best in the 2021 season. He also hopes for a smooth and complete recovery by 2022.
“I’ve chosen to fly back to Australia and re-asses and am planning to get PRP treatment to settle down and rehab my knee. I’m disappointed it has kept me from playing my best tennis, and hopefully, with everything going smoothly, I’ll be back to 100% by the Australian Open. All love,” Kyrgios ended.
